So here it is folks, one of the most anticipated basketball sneaker of 2017 – The Nike REACT HYPERDUNK 2017 FLYKNIT.
This time Nike uses their brand new REACT cushion system which maybe or may not be the answer for adidas‘ BOOST tech.
For me, Hyperdunk is the best team line ever created – versatility, performance, durability is what put this shoe on the very top every single year. Except for 2015, just forget about that model.
Is this will be the best Hyperdunk model of all time? Let‘s find out!

THIS IS HOW THE KOBE 11 SHOULD HAS BEEN MADE
The Nike Hyperdunk 2017 features very similar setup to the Kobe 11’s – flyknit & TPU string combo. However, Nike did some kind of improvements or something because it feels on foot completely different from what we had on the Kobe 11, that stiff ass upper. No more of that!
Along the upper, there’s three directional type of Flyknit for the best possible sock like fit and ultimate comfort level. God damn they’re comfy. Every single area of the shoe adapts to your foot nicely and gives you that one-to-one fit, while TPU strings make sure your foot is supportive in any type of scenario in the game.
Finally, the toe box has massive TPU strings going in between the Flyknit for maximum reinforcement and, of course, for durability purposes.
IS IT BETTER THAN BOOST?
Personally, this new generation REACT cushioning does not beat BOOST, not even close. But it just me. As you probably know already, I love to feel huge amount of bounciness under my foot and REACT does not offer that, that’s why BOOST is my go to cushion.
On the other hand, there’re tons of people out there who have different preferences than me, so for those REACT might be a better option than BOOST.
So I didn’t say that REACT is trash or something. Quite frankly, I do like how this cushion performs despite lacking in the bounce department.
If you’re a quick, flashy player who plays with force and prefers super responsive, low to the ground cushion, then this is the BEST option for you period. I was impressed how responsive & light this cushion feels, it’s incredible.
Now bigger or more passive players will be not hurt as well due to really solid amount of impact protection for soft ride & enjoyable landings.
Nike again created a well-balanced cushion for any type of player. And I’m happy with that since this is like bread and butter for Hyperdunk family.
THEY FINALLY GOT IT
My predictions came true. A few reviews back I said that Nike is in the searching progress right now and that they’re trying to invent another successful traction patter as the herringbone. And you know what? They finally did that.
The outsole features this brand new pressure-mapped traction pattern which does remind me of a feet shilluate. What can I say, they do stick to the floor like glue, I’m telling you. Clean courts, semi-dusty courts or super dirty courts, it doesn’t matter. The traction is going to kill it on any type of court – beastly stopping power, flawless move coverage, everything is A1.
Of course, on those super dirty public courts you will need to wipe them time to time to maintain that beastly traction, but it’s really nothing to crazy.
Now talking about outdoors, I don’t recommend you throwing them outdoors due to relatively soft rubber, unless you really don’t care about them.
NOTHING SPACTACULAR BUT IT GETS THE JOB DONE
We got a fully stacked up list of support features. Starting from the heel area, there’s a quite massive internal TPU heel counter which strongly locks and keeps your foot into the right place. Also, Flyknit material gets thicker & denser to really ensure heel support.
Now the midfoot area features Flywire cables attached to the lacing system to create the most accurate fit and the best playing experience, while working together with TPU string ensure solid midfoot containment throughout a whole playing session.
Las but not least, an extremely wide but at the same time rounded base will keep you steady & secure in any type of situation, while giving super awesome toe to heel transition like on the Kyrie 3.
IT JUST AWESOME
Comparing with the 2016 Flyknit version I would say that they felt pretty much the same and that’s awesome since this new upper has TPU reinforcement but still manages to keep main Flyknit properties on the highest level.
There’s no longer a one piece bootie, instead we have a half bootie construction and that’s because the tongue is half way connected with the upper, not completely a one piece. It’s more like old school since every brand is now going for that one piece bootie, but looking at practicality, I like this half bootie construction better just because you can put them on or off without any problems at all.
Of course, Flyknit on this year’s model is super soft, stretchy and more breathable than ever before. I enjoyed them every single time I was playing ball. Also, for even better experience and better comfort, Nike implemented like Neoprene style material piece in the heel area, on top of the area where the hell counter is, so when you moving this piece moves with your foot by creating flawless transition.
Now let’s talk about the fit. Narrow footers should be golden going true to size as well as wide footers due to the stretchy Flyknit upper and extra wide base.
The Nike React Hyperdunk 2017 Flyknit is none other than a huge success for Nike. They really made a huge improvement from last year’s Flyknit version and even reduce the price by $40. That’s a huge price drop and I think they worth every single penny.
Maybe REACT cushion isn’t the best cushion for me, but I know that there’s a lot of people who will love this setup as much as I love BOOST. Either way, I still enjoy playing in them and didn’t release or feel tha big of a miss in bounce department just because other aspects like: responsiveness, impact protection was phenomenal.
I’m 100% sure this is going to be in the TOP 10 or even in TOP 5 best basketball performers’ list at the end of this year.
