The Nike KD 9 is separated into two parts: front & rare. Front part is covered with pure Flyknit without any extra materials or glue. What’s that mean? It means first-class comfort, flexibility and comfort. However, Flyknit has one main problem – durability. But Nike put some nylon to make Flyknit more durable and supportive.
Now the rare part is covered with textile mesh. Also, on the back we got TPU heel counter for additional support. It seems nothing special, right? Yes, materials in the back area are not as good as in front, BUT it performs well and that is what we need.
Articulated full length Max Zoom. I have one word to describe this cushion. AMAZING. In this model Max Zoom cushion has separated forefoot cushion setup. In result, this cushion is capable to fallow your feet moves and give the best possible response, stability, impact protection & court feel at the same time. What can I tell, you receive great stability, tremendous mobility, amazing responsiveness and bounce.
Traction on KD 9 performed great for me. During performance test I had no slippage issues, just a small ones, traction grips the floor really well. Talking about wipe issues – there is no issues. Although, you will need to wipe here or there a few times. In general, I felt safe while playing in these bad boys.
Pure Flyknit makes the most differences in this model. This is one of the most comfortable shoe, right now in the market. It just raps around your feet like sock.
However, KD 9 has one body structure and the tongue area is not as flexible as I expected to be, so to put them for the first time was pain in the ass. But after a few tries problem disappeared, it’s all good now.
As a result, I suggest go true to size. Going half a size down, may cause minor slippage. The best idea would be to try them on in-store, because fit on KD 9 is kinda tricky.
As I mentioned before, the most important thing is FIT. Nike KD 9 doesn’t have a great support tech, so main support comes from great fit. If you are looking for lockdown support, then this model is not for you. This is more likely for guards and players who need mobility, court feel and no restrictions to go with.
Nike did a solid job with KD 9. You will get superb cushion, great materials, killer grip and solid support and you know what else? New KD 9 cost $150… Damn Nike, you really surprised me. In my opinion, it’s a MUST have basketball shoe. Go grab it!
