PERFORMANCE
MATERIALS
The upper is constructed from Neoprene bootie along with mesh material and synthetic leather backing. The Neoprene & Mesh combo is something special man – I enjoyed every second in these bad boys. This setup offers you incredibly comfortable sock like fit, perfect breathability and super nice lightweight feel to it.
Of course, to have this setup by itself would be too crazy since these materials have zero support. However, Nike implemented the synthetic leather backing in the areas where support is needed the most. So, you’re receiving enough support to keep your foot in the right position without sacrificing any comfort – bad ass setup.
CUSHION
The Air Huarache features Foam midsole with hidden Air unit in the heel area – perfect combo again… Now, the actual Foam is made of really soft & lightweight Phylon which gives you that awesome pillow like feel while running or just walking casually.
You can’t really feel this Air unit in the back area because of thick Foam layer around it. Although, it definitely adds a huge amount of bounce and makes noticeable differences between the forefoot and heel area.
Overall, the cushion tooling in the Air Huarache Ultra felt phenomenal – awesome impact protection, solid responsiveness and, of course, fluffy ride. This little bit reminded me of BOOST, crazy right?
TRACTION
Aggressive & Durable…
The outsole has outstanding rubber pods that are strategically placed for the best possible performance. I don’t why but this pattern reminds me of SUV’s off-road tire, its funny man.
Anyway, the rubber compound seems to be exceptionally durable and with thick rubber pods create very stable, heavy-duty base. I actually own a pair of the original Air Huarache Run model and after using them for about 2 years from now the traction looks almost the same, except from that layer of dirt. So if you’re looking for a long-lasting sneaker this is your go to model.
Also, in forefoot area of the outsole we got flexible grooves in between each line of pods. This concept heavily improves flexibility of the outsole and creates enjoyable, natural transition while running or walking.
Cool fact, you can actually see the midsole from these flexible grooves. It looks awesome in my opinion.
Let’s talk about performance real quick. I tested them on many different surfaces to fully form my opinion about it – basketball court, gym, running track and so on. For my big surprise, the traction performed beastly. Those big ass pods bite any surface like crazy, I had zero slippage problems whatsoever.
FIT
I highly recommend you to try them on before buying since the sizing is so different for everyone. Personally, I went ½ size up and they fitted me perfectly – no pinching, no pain just flawless fit.
Now we will cover the most import part of the shoe – ankle extension. As you can see, the Ultra edition has collar which is made from Neoprene. This sh*t is simply amazing! You now probably saying: but it’s just some extra material, nothing too crazy. I mean, you’re right. However, this additional collar adds that super comfy transition between your foot and the shoe itself. When you lace them up they immediately became like an extension for your foot and gives almost seamless fit. So, small details can make huge differences, don’t under rate it.
In addition, the ankle extension is enough elastic for fitting any type of foot. I had zero problems putting them on and you heard it from a wide footer.
SUPPORT
The Nike Air Huarache Ultra doesn’t have any outstanding or high-end support features. At the end of the day, the majority of people are wearing them casually so for that you really don’t need something spectacular, right?
Of course, if you’re going to use them for running, don’t worry they will provide you with enough support to feel secure, comfortable and stable all the time.
The main support comes from the synthetic leather cage which is connected with lacing system, so when you lace them up tightly, the leather cage hugs your foot nicely and secure to preserve from any unneeded foot movements. Also, there is an external rubber heel counter which keeps your heel in the right place.
OVERALL
If you’re sick and tired of wearing your adidas Ultra BOOSTs every single day or you just need a really comfortable and stylish sneaker for the summer then the Nike Air Huarache ULTRA is a must cop for you.
I was very impressed how they performed – cloud like cushion setup, almost seamless one-to-one fit, breathable & stretchy materials and the main highlight of the shoe – lightweight. The ultimate summer sneaker? Hell yeah!
The best part is that you can pull them off with ANYTHING – jogger, jeans, shorts, it doesn’t matter.

Hope you enjoyed my Performance Review on the NIKE AIR HUARACHE ULTRA. Will you be picking them up? Let me know!
That was a really great review. I was concerned with the ankle support until I read the “support” section. I was beginning to think that these kicks were only for show and no performance. Sucks that you couldn’t ball in these but I’d still wear a pair.
Thanks man!
Yeah, they got some solid performance up their sleeves. Actually, there was basketball edition for this model back in a day. It would be nice tho if Nike brought them back again 🙂
Hey Daumantas!
Great review! I am a fan of Nike, and good to know more about Nike Air Huarache. Your review is very thorough. And good to know you tested these bad boys too. Love all the features.
Gonna check them out for sure.
Thanks man! 🙂
Hey, Timotheus!
I appreciate your support. It’s so awesome that this review was useful for you!
You will be not disappointed by their performance, I promise. 🙂
Are the insoles removable? Would these shoes be comfortable enough for 8-12 hour shifts? And how do the treads hold up, any slipping on a wet floor?
Amazing review nonetheless!
Hey, Jeffrey
Unfortunately, insoles aren’t removable in these.
I’m working 8 hour shifts as well and they do get the job done pretty well for me. The midsole is soft, responsive and offers quite a lot of bounciness underneath, so no knee, heel pain. Also, super lightweight construction, breathable & soft upper keeps your feet dry after a long day. However, Mesh isn’t the most durable material that’s why you will need to take care of them more than usual. If that’s the case, then I would recommend you to pick the regular model of the Nike Huarache. The regular version has a synthetic leather upper option that going to be way more suitable for work due to better durability.
I didn’t receive any slippage on a wet floor, they should keep you safe.
Huge thanks!
do ı need to get a bigger size?
If you have a wider foot then go 1/2 a size up. Or just go whatever your true size is if you have a normal/narrow foot.
Hi, where can I get the exact ones in the picture?
Sorry to hear, but I can’t find them for sale anymore. Maybe try to hit your local Nike outlet, maybe there you’ll get lucky. Or there’s the latest Nike Air Huarache Drift model out there with almost exact same colorway – fresh silhouette, yet the same good old performance & comfort. On top of that, they’re actually on a huge sale at finishline as we speak. Click here to see
