ADIDAS D ROSE 8 REVIEW – INCREDIBLE SLEEPER!

The most famous adidas‘ performance sneaker line gets an update – a long waited D Rose 8.

Yeah… These doesn‘t look anything like past D Rose shoes. It seems like adidas gave up on Rose after hearing him signing that $2.1 million contract with CAVS.

What a journey Rose is having right now. From MVP to $2.1 million player. It makes me sad, but I hope that CAVS is the best place for Rose to finally get a chance to compete for a championship and get back on an elite level as an individual player.

But damn man… They do look like those adidas Explosive Bounce shoes to me. Maybe this will be the next sleeper? Let‘s find out!

PERFORMANCE

MATERIALS

LOOKS CHEAP BUT WAIT…

So the upper is the main factor (besides sloppy silhouette) why the shoe does look like a budget model. At least for me.

We have a super basic Foam backed Mesh upper which doesn‘t look so promising by just looking at it. BUT… Don’t judge a book by its cover. This quote is so damn right this time.

The upper does feel so freaking light, although the shoe itself isn‘t the lightest one in the business. But I would rank them in TOP 5 lightest D Rose‘s sneakers of all time.

For better ventilation, there‘re these cut outs throughout the whole upper that keep your feet dry & fresh, as well as improves flexibility for more natural movement. Of course, you’re not getting all of that Primeknit goodness from them, which isn’t a bad thing since it still sits nicely on your foot. And on top of that, Mesh with TPU overlays creates really solid containment in pretty much all areas.

CUSHION

PERFECT AS ALWAYS

BOOST. That‘s all you need to know man. I could skip cushion section whenever BOOST is in the house since it always brings us top- of- the- line performance. All day, every day baby!

Compering with the D Rose 7, the 8 does perform pretty much identical, except improved responsiveness. It’s like adidas D Rose 7 (1.5 version) as far as the cushion setup goes. We have that BOOST “famous” bouncy ride & ton of impact protection for our big mans out there.

Now increased responsiveness is what makes this setup even more beastly and more versatile than ever. Due to caged BOOST laterally in the forefoot/midfoot areas for direct BOOST energy kick directly to your foot. This trick makes forefoot incredibly responsive which is perfect scenario for guards since they do use forefoot a lot. While the back of the BOOST cushion is wide open, letting you to receive A1 impact protection.

TRACTION

JUST READ IT

The traction was bananas, I’m telling you. This is the first time of my life seeing a traction pattern this massive on a basketball shoe. That’s incredible. You just look at it… It looks to me like those winter boots with massive outsoles.

So on the court I did feel like a boss – instant stopping power (sometimes even to scary), PERFECT move coverage for your crazy, Kyrie like moves and that super squeaky noise to notify everyone on the court that you have some heat on your feet.

What about dusty courts then? Just forget about it. Not even a small slip. This zipper style pattern is so freaking vast that dust can’t do shit. It feels like you could play ball on snow.

And yes. You can easily throw them outdoors, they gonna last you forever.

FIT

OH MAMA!

GEOFIT doing his business in the D Rose 8 by creating one hell of a comfort experience. Again, this isn’t a Primeknit upper but this stuff lives up to it from the inside.

Massive padding & soft Foam backing do feel like massage chairs for your feet. While non-stretchy Mesh creates enough support to feel secure & contained. So you’re getting best of both worlds.

However, the lacing system does look a little bit weak, mainly because this integrated lace cord is thinner than laces itself. So I don’t know… It seems like you can easily rip it off at any given time. Maybe it’s just a piece of my mind. But quality aside, they do their job properly.

As far as the actual fit goes – they do fit true to size, unless you have a pretty narrow foot. If that’s the case, go half a size down.

SUPPORT

NOT TOO MUCH, NOT TOO LITTLE

Let’s chill out little bit with this one. Nothing too crazy in this category, just pure lockdown in pretty much every area you can think of. No heel slippage. No back and forth action. Non- stretchy Mesh & a small rubber works tandem to secure your foot from rolling over the footbed. I mean, whatever you need to feel protective on-court is here and it works perfectly fine.

Maybe the D Rose 8 is a tad bit less supportive than previous two models (6 and 7). But for me, personally, I do enjoy more having that, sweet spot between great lockdown and lightness, weather to have rock solid lockdown & feel too contained.

OVERALL

Love them or hate them, the D Rose 8 is a true sleeper. Poor- looking from the outside but one hell of an impressive performer from the inside.

Yes, they do look like adidas run out of ideas creating another mad silhouette for D Rose. But man… They’re so beastly on-court. Mad Performance in all areas. Hands down, the TOP 5 sneaker to hoop in this season.

Now if you already waiting for me to give you a green light to press that add to bag button, just wait for a Primeknit version show up. And then pull the trigger for one or another.

      Appreciate you bro!

It heavily depends on which version of the Crazy Explosive ’17 you’re comparing. Personally, the CE primeknit version does perform better than Rose 8, mainly because of materials (Mesh on the Rose 8 isn’t that great). And then there’s the regular version of Crazy Explosive – you can forget about that one. Not recommending this to anyone.

    Thanks for the review!

Just wondering, in your opinion, which shoe is better, the Kyrie 4 or this one?

    Thanks!

      That’s my job bro!

It heavily depends on what type of player you are man. Personally, I’m a bigger & heavier dude so I would take the D Rose 8 over the Kyrie 4 on any day of the week. But for a smaller & lighter ball handler or slasher, the Kyrie 4 is definitely more suitable.

do you know where I could purchase these shoes now?

I cant find on footlocker, finishline or even adidas own website.

You replied to my other comment recommending these for outdoors and very good cushion.

I’m looking into these now, but I cant find them.

In addition, how is the cushion on lebron soldier 12 compared to these? slightly worse or noticeably worse?

      Damn… They’re out of stock everywhere. That’s crazy…

HOWEVER, I do know one place where you can still grab a pair of these bad boys. I actually live in Lithuania and there we have ours awesome sports goods shop called SIL which ships stuff internationally (to USA $7). There’s a link to D Rose 8 – sil.lt

Talking about the LeBron Soldier 12, I can tell you this, the heel is powered with one reasonably thick Zoom Air unit and it does perform somewhat on a same level as the Rose 8, while the forefoot features simple Phylon layer, and it’s noticeably worse.

Hi, it’s a Real pleasure to read your reviews.
Have your ever tried previous d.rose models?
I would like some reviews for the 6 and 7 d.rose models.
I mainly play outdoor so durability traction and cushion are the most important.
I’m not a Big Man but an old 37 man so knees and ankles need to be care by good shoes.
    I already got
Nike LeBron soldier ix : my main shoes but some straps begin to be old but support, traction and cushion are perfection for me.
Nike hyperrev 2016: love the cushion and traction but low durability and too low profile for my ankles.
Nike Zoom without a doubt: good support, pretty good traction but need à bit more cushion
Nike hyperrev 2014: perfect cushion, traction but need a bit more support.

So what do you think it would be good for me:
    Adidas d.rose 6,7 or 8?
Adidas crazy explosive 2016 or 2017 normal or knit version?
    Another soldier 9?

Take Care of you and thank you for all

      Hey man,

So taking into account your description & current sneaker rotation – you shouldn’t be looking any further than the adidas D Rose 8. They’re built like a freaking tank so outdoor conditions shouldn’t be a concern. That thick slab of BOOST is one of the best cushion implementations in the market right now. How about traction. Well, people are making myths about it – will deal with everything you throw at it.

Hope I was able to help you. Have a good one.
